Dubai now ranks 10th in the list of destinations with the biggest number of events held in a year. According to the latest International Meetings Statistics report of the Union of International Associations (UIA), the emirate moved up four spots from its previous rank of 14 in 2015, with a total of 180 meetings taking place last year.
“It is once again clear that Dubai is now not only the regional leader in the sector, but also a major destination on the global stage for business events. We will continue to strengthen our business events offering, and strive toward transforming Dubai into a global knowledge hub,” Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing CEO IssamKazim said in a report published by the local industry paper TravTalk.
In a larger perspective, Dubai’s tourism number continues to get stronger in the run-up to the much-awaited Expo 2020.
Recent figures from Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing have shown a 10.6 percent increase in tourism volumes in the first of half of 2017, bringing over 8 million overnight visitors to the destination.
Almost all of Dubai’s top 20 inbound visitor markets saw positive year-on-year performances during this period, with India, Saudi Arabia and the UK still being the top three sources.
