The partnership between France and the UAE that began in 2007 is finally coming to fruition: Louvre Abu Dhabi is opening on the 11th of November 2017.
The museum-city, which was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, is a masterpiece on its own.
Featuring a vast silvery dome made up of 7,850 stars repeated at various sizes and angles in eight different layouts, this allows the entire museum to use natural sunlight as its light source during daytime. And, due to its complex structural design, the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s dome weighs as heavy as the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Telling the story of humanity in twelve inspiring chapters, the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s galleries feature works that range from prehistoric artefacts to contemporary art. It showcases several masterpieces from world-renowned French museums. These include works by Vincent van Gogh, Leonard Da Vinci, Paul Gauguin, Picasso, Édouard Manet and Claude Monet, among others.
Marvelous is an understatement. This Louvre in the Great Arabia will certainly be a staple in our MICE programmes in the United Arab Emirates. The creative possibilities are endless.
