The Louvre of Abu Dhabi has been the talk of the town since it opened on November 11.
We’ve had a preview of how it would look like and what kind of art it would be exhibiting prior to its official opening. But when Gulf Dunes has finally set foot in The Louvre Abu Dhabi, we were simply blown away. The museum, with its rain of light passing through the thousands of stars on the roof was mesmerizing and its minimalism evoked a sense of tranquility.
As to the art works, we thought all we were after were the works of Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Picasso and Monet. But lo and behold, when we stepped into the galleries, the grand chronicle of humanity was overwhelming. We enjoyed every showcase of art from every era of human civilisation and were in awe at the fullness of creativity and inspiration.
The question is, how will such an amazing art-inspired venue figure in into MICE programmes in the United Arab Emirates?
Here’s what we know:
We are happy to report that The Louvre Abu Dhabi will have temporary exhibition spaces, an auditorium and other areas that are available of corporate functions. However, the museum, together with the Tourism and Culture Authority of Abu Dhabi, is still working out the details and policies that will be involved in holding events. They are ironing out what types of events will be allowed and what policies are to be implemented for food and beverage, among others.
Gulf Dunes is closely working with The Louvre Abu Dhabi and the tourism authorities involved on this. Rest assured, you will be promptly updated on the latest developments in this prestigious venue.
