Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi is the largest of the Arab Emirates. It is the country’s capital and centre of the Government for the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1762 by tribesmen who discovered fresh water there named it Abu Dhabi, which in Arabic means ‘place of the gazelle’. Today, still graceful, Abu Dhabi is surrounded by large gardens and parks with tree lined boulevards and sophisticated high-rise buildings. The most exciting new landmark of Abu Dhabi is the Emirates Palace, a majestic hotel and conference centre which is beyond a doubt the most luxurious and technologically advanced meeting facility in the world. The cosmopolitan city of Abu Dhabi, miles of beautiful coastlines and spectacular desert dunes of red sands make it a visitors delight. Al Ain and the Northern Emirates A short distance from Abu Dhabi you will find the ancient oasis city of Al Ain, known as the ‘garden city of the gulf’. Archaeological treasures and ancient forts make Al Ain a fascinating place to visit. To the east is the coastal town of Fujairah which holds the unique position of being the only Emirate that lies on the eastern side of the UAE along the Gulf of Oman. Beautiful unspoiled coastal waters, clean beaches, numerous water sports and rugged mountains offer activities and attractions all year round. On the northern tip of the UAE lies Ras Al Khaimah, whose history extends into antiquity and just beyond lies Musandam, part of Oman. Called the Norway of Arabia, the mountains rise straight our of the sea in magnificent fjiords. The coastline hosts dolphins in pods thousands and the diving is some of the best to be found anywhere in the world. |
